Amoudara is an elongated swimming area west of Heraklion whose residences are almost completely affiliated to the island’s capital. It is well -equipped with hotel complexes of all sizes (and unfortunately, at the western end with a large power plant). Amoudara Beach provides all modern infrastructures for bathing, lifeguard, sea sports and other sea pleasures. It can be reached easily by local bus.
The are pedestrian walkways on both sides of the main road, where the entire length of the area (at least 3 km) has been planted with multi-colored oleander trees.
This holiday resort combines the proximity to the city Heraklion with its famous Archaeological Museum and the archaeological site Knossos with a wide and well-kept sandy beach. If you rent a car you can choose between many tours and attractions, and also the south coast is not far away.
The public bus service has a frequent connection from/to Heraklion all 15-20min.(in summer), ticket price 1,50€ one way/adult (May 2014), and also to Heraklion International Airport.
